Another day down at AjaxWorld - two good presentations on JavaScript today. Douglas Crockford gave a talk about the good parts of JavaScript. There’s a man with a compilcated (dysfunctional?) love/hate relationship with JavaScript. I think I heard him say at one point “I wish I could quit you!”…
Mike G gave an interesting talk about JavaScript as well - a particularly nice tip was exploiting the function scope in your JavaScript applications to avoid placing information in the global variable space. A very handy technique to prevent XSS attacks. If you want to meet a guy that loves JavaScript, track down Mike G. His favorite JavaScript library is YUI, but he also gave props to the fantabulous jQuery, which is the new brains behind the next release of Appcelerator. It will be cool to have jQuery at one’s disposal for the more hairy bits of JavaScript that need be created in an Appcelerator applciaton.
Looking forward to doing a more technically slanted presentation tomorrow on Appcelerator, hopefully with enough programming red meat to be satisfying to actual developers and not just project managers and business types.
